African biblical hermeneutics in a state of flux – towards refocusing its trajectory

This study attempts to critically re-examine certain key hermeneutical concerns of a representative group African biblical and religious studies scholars, who ground theological reflection on traditional values, cultures social realities. Most the scholars examined are united by focus past an attempt interpret present future basis it. The article critiques backward-looking hermeneutic implicit in work especially Jesse Mugambi’s metaphor reconstruction. It proposes based liberation, as employed, for example, women theologians or Gerald West Emmanuel Katongole, building new liberative transformative narrative praxis that prioritises sacredness inviolability human life context web life, particular foregrounds dignity lives, well all others.
